Devon Dumplings v Exeter School

Tuesday 25 June 2024 at School

DD 259 for 7 (40 overs). Exeter School 113. DD won by 146 runs.

With the sun shining and captain Graham White winning the toss, Dumplings' opening batters started well. Eddie Steele and Oliver Gribble, both scoring freely, put on 99 runs for the first wicket in only 12 overs before Steele was caught. This brought old Exonian Elliott Barnes to the crease. Barnes was going well until, on 49 off only 48 balls, having just run a leg-bye he sensibly retired not out due to a hamstring issue. The score had already progressed to 178 off 26 overs by then. School skipper Harry Mount finally turned to Harry Williams in the 32nd over. He slowed the scoring down, taking three wickets in two overs. This included the wicket of Aashay Dube, trapping him LBW for 33. But the final score of 259 for 7 was always going to be a big ask.

Dube struck in the 1st over, claiming the wicket of Harry Arden, and within 5 overs, the School
found themselves 28 for 3. Nate James(24) and Josh Paget(23) put on 39 for the fourth wicket
before Billy Buckingham claimed his first wicket of the match when he caught and bowled Paget. James soon followed Paget back to the Pavilion. Harry Williams was trying to be positive with 3 fours in his 14 runs but he couldn’t survive the spin of veteran campaigner Bernie Wilson. Buckingham, also bowling spin, claimed 5 wickets in total and the School were soon out for 113.

DD 259 for 7 (Oliver Gribble 67, Elliott Barnes 49 Ret: Harry Williams 3-25).
Exeter School 113 AO (Nate James 24 : Billy Buckingham 5-26) won by 146 runs.
