Devon Dumplings v Plymouth College
DD 253 for 8 (40 overs). Plymouth College 163. DD won by 90 runs
We made a welcome return to Plymouth College after a gap of several years. Matt Witcher,
Captain, had raised a team not surprisingly mainly from the Plymouth area. Ex-pupil Teddy Haffenden played in his second Dumplings fixture with youngsters Tom Smith and Aziz Rahmanzai receiving their caps.
Having won the toss, Dumplings batted first and progressed well until first change bowler Matt Whalley struck in his first over, with the score on 31. This brought Vaibhav Sheth to the crease. He batted well, top scoring with 78 off only 54 balls (four 4s, seven 6s). There followed useful contributions from all the batters until Alex Shutt claimed two wickets, both bowled, in two balls in the 39th over. The Dumplings finished on 253 for 8 in their 40 overs.
After a lovely tea, the new Dumplings, Smith and Rahmanzai, opened the bowling, Smith having success with his 3rd ball. A partnership of 44 then took the score on to 48 before the captain was caught behind for 29 runs. Parson claimed another victim, stumping Matt Whalley for 15 off the bowling of Vaibhav Sheth. Matt Witcher struck in the next over bowling James Webb (33) and the College were 98 for 5 off 19 overs. Charlie Watson tried to hold the innings together and he had some support but when he was out for 33 in the 32nd over with the score on 155 for 8, Siddiqui and Shaquan Glasgow soon finished the job off, taking one wicket apiece.
Thanks to Plymouth College for their hospitality and hopefully we can play them again next
season.
