Devon Dumplings v Heffle Cuckoos

Thursday 11 July 2024 at Heathcoat

Heffle Cuckoos 237 for 6. DD 238 for 2. DD won by 8 wkts.

A mixed team, featuring multiple Dumplings debutants, meant no less than 5 cap presentations prior to play, including a prodigious 14 year-old keeper in Grace Golsworthy.
Having been warned of their demolition of Torquay the previous day, it was uncertain as to
what was to come, but collectively the team bowled well in restricting them to 237 in their 40
overs. 15year-old Nic Bayly bowled superbly opening up, supported by Shaq Glasgow. What
followed was an army of spinners, led by teenagers Max O’Farrell and Josh Stewart, ably supported by Billy Buckingham, Joe Poustie and Bandu Warnapura. The evergreen James Mills punctuated the spin battery for 3 miserly overs mid-innings. Special mention has to go to Grace,
who kept incredibly well on a challenging pitch and against an incredibly varied set of bowling.
Sharp turn, variable bounce and decent pace from the two openers were never enough to deter
Grace, and she was performed wonderfully well .

So with 237 to chase, Bayly and young George Perry set about building a platform. They put on
101 in the first 17.3 overs, and both made batting look incredibly simple for those 101. Perry
really set the tone in the early overs with some glorious stroke play, and it was a shame when
he fell for a well made 42. Warnapura picked up the mantle with Bayly, and together they added a
further 121 in the next 13 overs. When Warnapura fell for a quite brutal 68 off 36 balls, the game
was done with just 15 further runs required. Bayly completed his unbeaten 100 in the 30th over,
and Glasgow finished the game off with 3 boundaries.
All in all a great win, very much built on the performances of 6 very talented teenagers. Thank
you to Heathcoat for the hospitality, and to Wendy for being so supportive in the organisation
of the game.
