Devon Dumplings v W Buckland School

Wednesday 22 June 2016 at School

DD 68-2 Match abandoned

On a damp dismal morning, rain delayed the start until after lunch when The Dumplings, batting first, opened with the experienced Nigel Ashplant and young, Adriane Morrison, who was soon bowled by James Russell, bowling his away swingers, for 3. Then Naj Choudhary joined Ashplant and took the score steadily to 41, before Choudhary was bowled by Tom Smaldon for 11.

Christian Cabourn, Dumplings Young Player of The Year last season, was promoted up the order and joined Ashplant, who was batting really well and kept the score ticking over, while Cabburn accepted his new responsibility, hitting 3 boundaries, before the rain arrived which finally brought the game to a premature conclusion after 20 overs, with Dumplings 68 for 2 wickets.

The school, which included Lydia Clements, who plays for the Senior Devon Team and her sister Carmen, fielded and bowled very well, despite the inclement conditions which made the ball hard to handle.

We must thank Dominic Ford, the schools cricket master, for hosting us so well during the day, with a lovely lunch, tea and drinks before we left for home, ensuring that our day at The School was very enjoyable despite the weather.

 Devon Dumplings 68 for 2 wickets (N. Ashplant 29no C. Cabburn 17no, J. Russell 1 for 13 T. Smaldon 1 for 27)
